Each year, about 231,840 women in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer. Most of these women will receive treatment and
survive for many years.
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8.
The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 37.
In 2015 there were 246,660 cases for women and 2,600 cases for men of newly diagnosed breast cancer.
As of January 1, 2016 there are 3,560,570 breast cancer survivors
In ten years the projected Breast Cancer survivors will be 4,571,210.
The American Cancer Society is actively fighting breast cancer by helping women get tested to find breast cancer earlier, helping them understand their treatment options and coping with the physical and emotional side effects.
Mammography screening can help detect breast cancers at an early stage, when there are more treatment options and treatment is more likely to
be successful.

The third Friday in October each year is National Mammography Day, first proclaimed by President Clinton in 1993.
On this day, or throughout the month, women are encouraged to make a
mammography appointment. In 2016, National Mammography Day
will be celebrated on October 21.
